There are couples who leave your heart feeling full before you’ve ever picked up a camera.
That was Olivia and Brett.
Whenever I meet with a couple for the first time, I DO absolutely expect that we’ll spend quite a while talking through wedding photography and getting to know one another. BUT, we talked for almost two hours! (I loved every minute of it!) By the time we hung up, it felt less like I had met new clients and more like I had reconnected with friends I’d known for years.
There was an immediate ease to our conversation. We laughed, shared stories, talked about our faith, and discovered just how much we had in common. Their love for the Lord is woven into every part of who they are, and hearing the way they spoke about their relationship, their families, and their future together made me even more excited for everything that was ahead.
As a St. Louis wedding photographer, those kinds of connections are one of my favorite parts of this job. Beautiful locations matter, but the people in front of my camera will always matter more.
For their engagement session, we chose two of my favorite locations in the city: the Missouri Botanical Garden and Tower Grove Park.
The Missouri Botanical Garden is one of the most beautiful places for St. Louis engagement photos. From the peaceful Japanese Garden to winding pathways, elegant architecture, and lush seasonal blooms, every turn offers another incredible backdrop. It’s timeless, romantic, and one of the best locations for couples who want engagement portraits that feel refined while still feeling completely natural.
Just across the street, Tower Grove Park brings a different kind of beauty. The historic pavilions, towering trees, open lawns, and quiet walking paths create a relaxed atmosphere that allows couples to simply enjoy being together. It was the perfect complement to our time at the garden.
The best part of the evening, though, had nothing to do with the scenery.
It was watching Olivia and Brett delight in one another.
Some couples need a little encouragement before they forget the camera is there. These two simply enjoyed each other. Every smile, every laugh, every glance felt effortless because that’s exactly how they love. Their kindness toward one another is quiet but unmistakable, and spending an evening documenting that joy was an incredible gift.
One of the greatest privileges of being a St. Louis engagement photographer is getting to know my couples long before the wedding day arrives. Engagement sessions aren’t simply about creating beautiful photographs. They create space to slow down, spend time together, and build trust before the wedding day ever begins. By the time the wedding arrives, you’re no longer standing in front of a photographer. You’re standing in front of someone who already knows your story and is genuinely celebrating alongside you.
That is exactly how this session felt.
