Missouri Botanical Garden engagement photos are some of my favorite images to create in St. Louis, and Anastasia and Gabe’s final location of the day was the perfect reminder of why.
After spending the afternoon surrounded by the grand architecture of the Central Library and the editorial city feel of Kiener Plaza, we ended their engagement session among winding paths, quiet water, and some of the most beautiful gardens in St. Louis- the Missouri Botanical Garden.
Their outfit change brought an entirely new feeling to the evening. The city sophistication of Downtown St. Louis gave way to something softer. More romantic. More playful. More like the quiet exhale at the end of a really beautiful day.
Anastasia’s flowing blue dress moved effortlessly as they walked through the gardens, and suddenly the session felt almost dreamlike. One minute they were laughing and running hand in hand down the pathways. The next, they looked as though they had stepped straight out of a classic film. That’s one of the things I love most about the Missouri Botanical Garden for engagement photos.
There are very few places in St. Louis that offer so much variety while still feeling timeless. The water. The bridges. The flowers. The changing seasons. Every corner feels like a completely different experience while somehow still feeling unmistakably St. Louis.
And as beautiful as the location was, what I’ll remember most about this portion of their session was simply how much fun they had together. The laughter. The dancing. The way Gabe effortlessly scooped Anastasia into his arms. The way they looked at each other as though they had forgotten anyone else was around.
Those are always the moments I’m looking for.
Not perfection. Not poses. Connection. Because years from now, that’s what these photographs will mean. Not just what this season looked like. But what it felt like.
Looking back on these images now, I’m reminded all over again why engagement sessions matter so much. Wedding photographs tell the story of a marriage beginning in front of the people you love most. Engagement photographs tell the story of the two of you before any of that.
Before the timeline. Before the ceremony. Before the celebration. Just the two of you learning what it feels like to stand on the edge of forever together.
One of my favorite things about being a St. Louis engagement photographer is getting to help bring my couples’ visions to life. I love making recommendations and helping shape a session from the ground up, but there is something so fun about a couple coming to me with a dream already in their hearts and getting to say, “Yes! Let’s do it!”
Watching Anastasia and Gabe’s vision unfold from the elegance of the Central Library, to the movement and energy of Kiener Plaza, and finally to the romance of the Missouri Botanical Garden was such a joy.
By the end of the evening, it felt less like three locations and more like three chapters of the same beautiful story.
